Making predictions is one of my favorite reading strategies to introduce students to each year! We use lots of making prediction strategies throughout the year, like Prediction Boxes, Book Cover of Predictions, etc., but I like to start my kiddos out on the first day of school with making predictions about our year together.
This activity not only allows me to introduce predicting, what it IS and IS NOT, but it also gives me a glimpse into some of my students’ hopes, likes, dislikes and/or fears around our school year.
Give each student a “Prediction Face” page and explain that predictions are statements about something that they think will happen in the future. Ask students to come up with 3-5 predictions about their year (multiple grade levels included in the freebie) and write them inside the face. Students can then color and decorate their page.
My favorite part of this activity is having students share their predictions with one another!
These Prediction Faces are super cute to display in the classroom or even add to a memory book for the end of the year.
