Poetry Month is one of my favorite times of year! Elementary students LOVE writing poems and I want to share with you one of our favorite poetry writing activities…3D Haiku Poems!
Haiku poetry is a form of traditional Japanese poetry, consisting of three lines. Often Haiku poems use sensory language to express a thought or feeling about nature. Each line of the poem has a certain amount of syllables, keeping the poem short and simple.
This 3-D Spring Writing Activity includes a Haiku Introduction Page, as well as a Planning Page, to guide students through creating their own poems about something in nature.
Students love going outside and taking a “nature walk” to get inspired about a topic. Once students have completed and revised their rough draft, they can create the final draft on the 3-D earth template. I’ve put together multiple templates for students to choose from. This activity can be used at any elementary grade level, since multiple templates are also included for an Earth Day writing activity.
