Math fact fluency practice is vital, whether it’s for addition facts, subtraction facts, multiplication facts or division facts! Math facts practice is necessary for students to quickly recall various facts.
I am so excited to share with you a math tool that has completely simplified math fact practice in my classroom!
After years of finding rogue flashcards on the floor, missing from who knows whose baggie, I decided there had to be another way for math facts practice.
I wanted something that was less management (= less work for me), and more efficient for students practicing the fact family they were trying to master…
These are math fact flashcards simplified!
Each fact family for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division has one Fact Flip per fact family 1-12. So that means instead of 12 flashcards floating around, all 12 facts are on ONE SHEET OF PAPER! Hallelujah!
How do they work?
Students simply fold over the answer flap (photo directions included), cut in between the equal signs, and work on quizzing themselves on each fact. If a student gets the fact correct, they leave the flap open. If they get it incorrect, they close the flap and come back to it again.
Fact Flips are perfect for partner practice, a parent-led small group, or for independent practice. Students can take them home or keep them in their class work folders.
There are two different options, Fact Flips that are sequential, which is helpful for beginners, or an option with the math facts all mixed up (for more of a challenge).
Then, for each of those options, you get two more options, having Fact Flips with answers printed, or with answers blank. Again, just another way to differentiate.
Fact Flips easily lend themselves differentiation, because each students gets one Fact Flip for the fact family they are working on memorizing. Once students master their fact family, they get to move onto the next one, and continuing doing so until they master all facts 1-12.
What about storing these?
Easy….Pop them into a file crate for quick storage and easy student access. Train students that once they master one fact family, they get to move onto the next Fact Flip. Here is a FREE download of file folder tabs that I have pre-made for you.
Can we reuse the Fact Flips?
Absolutely! Simply print them onto heavy paper, or card stock paper, and keep a set handy for easy student access.
