Meet Frank! He’s my Friendly Bat. We had so much fun drawing our bats today, that I wanted to share it with you. This Directed Drawing is perfect for October, or as an addition to a unit on bats. Here are the steps I used to direct the drawing of the bat:
1. Draw a circle in the center of your paper. This will be the bat’s head.
2. Add a half-circle connecting to the center circle on the left side. Add another half-circle connecting to the center circle on the right. These will be the bat’s wings.
3. Underneath one half-circle, draw three mini half-circles that connect the wing back to the bat.
4. Underneath the other half-circle, draw three mini half-circles that connect the wing back to the bat.
5. Draw two larger triangles on top of the center circle. These will be the bat’s ears.
6. Draw two smaller triangles inside of the larger triangles.
7. Next we will draw the bat’s eyes. Draw two circles inside of the bat’s head (center circle).
8. Draw and color in two smaller circles inside of the bat’s eyes. These are its eyeballs.
9. Draw a curved line to make the bat’s smile.
10. Add two large upside down triangles to the bat’s smile to make large teeth.
11. Add two smaller triangles on the inside of the larger triangles. These will make two more teeth.
HOORAY! You did it! You made a friendly bat. Now give it a name and show a friend.
